The Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome Fund at ALSF is committed to fund research into Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) and related disorders.
This research includes developing and studying a patient registry and repository, developing and studying mouse and human cell-based models of BWS, and understanding the genetic and epigenetic changes that lead to BWS and related disorders.
All donations to the Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome Fund are restricted to research and advances in BWS and related disorders. Dr. Jenn Kalish, a leading researcher in the BWS community will lead the Scientific Advisory Committee for the fund - helping to set priorities and strategies for funding the most impactful BWS research. Read about Dr. Kalish's research recently funded by ALSF. About Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS): BWS is a condition that affects many parts of the body. Children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome are at an increased risk of developing several types of cancerous and noncancerous tumors, particularly a form of kidney cancer called Wilms tumor and a form of liver cancer called hepatoblastoma. Tumors develop in about 5-10 percent of children with BWS. http://www.alexslemonade.org/campaign/beckwith-wiedemann-syndrome-fund-alsf
